He was born Ferrell Sanders in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1940. Sanders went to New York in 1961, where he played with Sun Ra and Don Cherry; most importantly, he also enjoyed a long collaboration with John Coltrane. By the end of the Sixties, his technique of overblowing and his penchant for plaintive melody had made him into a legend. Sanders now reaches new heights with The Underground. This latest ensemble includes electro/acoustic musician Rob Mazurek and drummer Chad Taylor, among others. www.pharoahsanders.net www.robmazurek.com |
