Pharoah & The Chicago & Sao Paolo Underground
The charismatic saxophonist Pharoah Sanders is among the pillars of free jazz, a genre that aspires to transcend being and time. He was born Ferrell Sanders in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1940. Sanders went to New York in 1961, where he played with Sun Ra and Don Cherry; most importantly, he also enjoyed a long collaboration with John Coltrane. By the end of the Sixties, his technique of overblowing and his penchant for plaintive melody had made him into a legend. Sanders now reaches new heights with The Underground. This latest ensemble includes electro/acoustic musician Rob Mazurek and drummer Chad Taylor, among others.
