Earth Sun Sky Cloud

Maintenant Marfa, Marfa Texas (2024-25)

Day Viewing:

Earth Sun Sky Cloud 1 (sun rise) + Earth Sun Sky Cloud 2 (sun set)

Aluminum screen, mirror, wire

During the day, with the sound of the open desert, a pair of screen mesh sculptures with mirror cores activate at precise angles at sunrise and sunset. The mirrored sky reflects the sun creating a void into unknown worlds. Activation occurs when the body finds the light and accepts this transference of energy.

Night Viewing:

Earth Sun Sky Cloud 1 (facing east) + Earth Sun Sky Cloud 2 (facing west)

Aluminum screen, mirror, wire, video projection

A round mirror sits in the middle of a vast cloud of screen mesh, attached to the outside of a shed in the Antelope Hills of Marfa. Kaleidoscopic strobing video images - a looping sequence of Mazurek’s paintings and other visuals controlled by a sound recording of his music - play across the irregular contours of the assemblage, transforming the heaped fabric into an intricate, churning light cave. At its heart the mirror, which is deflected at an angle and so appears at first like a dead spot or hole in the wall, depending on the time of day or night - reflecting only the changing light of the sky and stars, and the rising moon and sun amid the swirling cacophony of light and blinking images. - Mark So

Rob Mazurek embraces the architecture of sound as vision and vision as sound to radically engage with form and feeling as a conduit towards new ways of seeing and hearing.  Through these projections of abstract forms, Mazurek invites viewers/listeners into spatial and perceptual realities and imagined realities that trigger new sensations, inviting viewers to see and hear in a more expansive way.

“Mantras, meditations, projections – for Mazurek, the process is one of looking for resonances”. John Corbett

"Mazurek makes the noise between the incomprehensions into something beautiful". Tiago Mesquita
