From the age of twenty, captivated by the paintings of Mark Rothko, Rob Mazurek developed a passion for color field painting, and with a systematic desire to do things himself, he began painting and composing in an attempt to recapture the emotional precision that had moved him so deeply. Thus, when he paints, he brings tones and rhythms, creating what are essentially graphic scores.

Crashing through space into pure grain

The Exploding Star Orchestra is Rob Mazurek’s vehicle for blowing minds and reshaping worlds. For more than a decade and a half, the multi-instrumentalist has guided the variably configured big band through appearances on three continents. Its first performance in his former hometown of Chicago in more than five years determined to be more than just a concert.

A lead single from the album – “Future Shaman” – and an accompanying video created by Mazurek are available today.

Scattered Amplitudes is the title of the site-specific installation by multidisciplinary international artist Rob Mazurek, which will open on Thursday 8 September at Intermezzo 11 (Milano), in Via Lanzone 11.
