Sudden Amplitudes
Aluminum screen, mirrors, video, sound installation for Ispod Bine Audio Arts Festival, Split, Croatia (2024)
The aluminum screen cloud sculptures are suspended in air with round mirrors in the center directing its reflection at the other. The video, made from the animation of drawings and paintings through sound. The repeating sound of a chord played by the artist on a 1942 Steinway Grand Piano and then synthesized through modular synths, animates the still images into a riot of shape and form. In front of each mirror is a microphone set to the level just at the cusp of feeding back. When a gazer moves close to the mic, a transference of energy between human and technology merges into biofeedback, adding another layer to the already complex arena. In a way, the viewer controls the sound. The 2 projectors, pointed at opposing faces of the sound sculpture, move on, in and through the mesh screen creating layers of on, in, through and shadow into the space. This coupled with the reflections of inner and outer due to the mirrors bring to mind duplicities and endless possibility that exist in all forms.
